Changes to the General Dental Council (GDC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) international registration legislation

15th February 2022

On 7th February, the Department of Health and Social Care, on behalf of the UK Government and the devolved administrations launched a public consultation, ‘Changes to the General Dental Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s international registration legislation’.

The aim is provide these regulators with greater flexibility to amend their international registration processes and to remove prescriptive detail about how such processes should operate from legislation.

This will mean that the GDC and NMC have more freedom to develop new or additional processes to assess that international applicants have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to practise in the UK.

The consultation will run for 3 months until 6 May 2022 and is hosted on Gov.UK at:
