Consultation on Complaints Standards for the Public Sector in NI

Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman has plans to improve complaints handling across the public sector in Northern Ireland.

The authority for the Ombudsman to perform this role was provided in Part 3 of the Public Services Ombudsman Act in 2016, however its commencement was reserved until formal approval from the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The Act states that prior to approval, NIPSO must consult with Ministers, and others, on a draft Statement of Principles for complaints handling by public bodies. NIPSO must also consult on a set of Model Complaints Handling Procedures.
