New Interim Chair for PCC

Stephen takes the helm at PCC

The Patient and Client Council welcomes its newly appointed Interim Chair Mr. Stephen Mathews OBE following an announcement by the Department of Health.

Stephen was Chief Executive of The Cedar Foundation to October 2021 Mr. Stephen Mathews OBEcompleting over 30 years’ service.  Cedar supports over 3000 individuals living with disability, autism and brain injury to live the lives they choose.  At Cedar he oversaw the development of a range of specialisms, including Supported Community Living for people with complex needs.  He was appointed OBE in 2010 for services to people with a disability.

Stephen takes over the position from Ms. Christine Collins MBE who has been Chair since March 2019 and is moving to the position of Chair of The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA).

Following the news of his appointment, Stephen says: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Interim Chair at PCC.  I look forward to carrying on the great work that Christine and the other Council Members have been involved in.”

Vivian McConvey, Chief Executive of the Patient and Client Council, says: “We welcome Stephen to the role of Interim Chair and know that he will bring his expertise and years of experience to the Patient and Client Council in these challenging times for health and social care in Northern Ireland.

We would also like to pay tribute to our outgoing Chair Christine Collins MBE whose insight contributed to the ongoing work of the PCC during times of change in the health and social care system and the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic.  We all wish Christine well in her new tenure as Chair of RQIA.”

Mr. Mathews’ appointment which is on an interim basis will run until 28th February 2023.
