Nursing and Midwifery Council seeking Council Members

8th December 2022

Nursing and Midwifery Council are seeking three new non-Executive members to join their Council in May 2023.

Two roles are for lay non-Executives and one is open to a professional currently on our register.

NMC want to see safe, effective, and kind nursing and midwifery that improves everyone’s health and wellbeing. As the regulator of more than 758,000 nursing and midwifery professionals they have an important role to play in making this vision a reality.

Over the next three years, government reforms will transform how NMC work, giving them greater autonomy and flexibility to deliver more effectively for the public and professionals. The Council will also change, becoming more accountable to the people they serve.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion is central to all they do. NMC strongly encourage applicants from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities or with other diverse backgrounds as we want our Council to reflect the professions we regulate, and the people they care for.

As NMC work covers all of the UK, they welcome applicants from all four nations: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

NMC are looking for three high calibre, talented people who can add value and bring new perspectives as they enter this exciting new phase. NMC are keen to hear from those who can bring significant skills in areas such as public accountability, public affairs, advocating for the public or for people who use services, senior leadership in higher education, commercial expertise or leadership or oversight of major technology/digital or cultural transformation.

You will be joining a highly motivated, forward-thinking Council, united in NMC’s ambition to do they best for the public they serve and the professionals they regulate, working with the Executive team. NMC values – to be fair, kind, collaborative, and ambitious – underpin everything they do.

You will need to be able to devote at least 3 days a month to the Council; in return you will receive an annual allowance (currently £15,166 a year) and reasonable expenses.
