Aim of the event

  • Join a webinar to discuss Valuing Medicines – A Strategy for the Sustainable Use of Medicines in Northern Ireland.
  • This is an opportunity to learn more about the consultation and share your views on the strategy’s goals and recommendations.

Why is this important?

  • Medicines are essential for keeping people healthy at all stages of life.
  • In Northern Ireland, we spend £875 million a year on medicines.
  • People here take more medicines at a higher cost than in other parts of the UK.
  • If we don’t act, the health service will struggle to afford new and better treatments.
  • Medicines also have an environmental impact:
    • They produce 25% of NHS carbon emissions.
    • Too much medicine goes to waste which costs money and
      harms the environment.

What does the strategy aim to achieve?

  • Ensuring everyone can access the right medicines safely and affordably.
  • Reducing waste and the impact of medicines on the environment.
  • Using data, technology and research to improve how medicines are used.
