PCC Statement: Western Health and Social Care Trust’s Emergency General Surgery Consultation

17 July 2025PCC Statement Ref: Western Health and Social Care Trust's Emergency General Surgery Consultation

Commenting on the Western Health and Social Care Trust’s (WHSCT) Emergency General Surgery Consultation, a spokesperson for the Patient and Client Council (PCC) said:

“The PCC acknowledges the concerns regarding the WHSCT Emergency General Surgery Consultation. PCC has raised concerns with the Trust, and acknowledges the Minister’s recent request for a pause to the consultation.”

“PCC understand that difficult decisions need to be taken in order to improve outcomes for the public and to sustain health and social care services across Northern Ireland, into the future.  Listening to and understanding people’s and communities lived experiences by working in partnership with them is crucial to building trust in, and delivering, successful reform.”

“PCC remain committed to supporting the public, the Trust and the wider Health and Social Care system through our statutory functions, to maximise opportunities for inclusive public engagement and dialogue, on this issue and on wider service reform.”
