Have your say: PCC seeks new members for Care of Older People Engagement Platform

The Patient and Client Council (PCC) is inviting older people, carers, and community representatives to join its Care of Older People Engagement Platform, to ensure lived experience is central to shaping decisions about care for older people in Northern Ireland.

The platform, which evolved from the Care Homes Engagement Platform set up during the pandemic, plays a vital role in collaborative work with the Department of Health, the Strategic Planning and Performance Group (SPPG), the Public Health Agency (PHA), the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) and Health and Social Care Trusts. Since its launch, it has influenced visiting guidance in care homes, informed the implementation of Care Partners, advocated on access to quality care and treatment, and collaborated with the PHA on its Visiting with Care survey. Members have also contributed to projects such as the Regional Falls in Care Homes Project, Pre-Admission Assessment, Frailty Models, and the Regional Urinary Catheter Care Pathway.

Keli Farrell, PCC Engagement Platform Lead said: “The Care of Older People Engagement Platform gives older people, carers, and communities a direct voice in shaping services and policies that matter most to them. By sharing their insights and experiences, members ensure that decisions reflect the reality of living with and providing care.

“Together we can shape the future of care for older people. For more information or to express your interest, email Keli.Farrell@pcc-ni.net or call 0800 917 0222 before 2pm on Friday 31 October 2025.”
