BHSCT Cardiac Surgery Service User Group

Belfast Trust is currently seeking service users and carers to join a newly formed Cardiac Surgery Service User Group.  This group will work with the Trust to ensure that the voice of the service user is integrated into the Cardiac Surgery improvement programme of work.

Belfast Trust undertook an external review of the Cardiac Surgery Unit which was completed at end March 2025.  The report identified the Cardiac Surgery Unit was clinically safe, with excellent outcomes for patients, and the technical skills of the staff were recognised. Patient feedback is consistently positive ranging from 98-100% satisfaction with their care. The review did identify there were wholly unacceptable behaviours in a small number of staff which needed to be dealt with.

The report set out a number of recommendations for Belfast Trust to improve the service.  Belfast Trust has now established a programme of work to progress the recommendations arising from the report.

The Trust are seeking service users and their carers who have had experience of cardiac surgery in the last five years to join this group.  The group will meet initially on a monthly basis and an induction and training will be provided to support your understanding and getting involved.
