PCC Support

We all use, need and value Health and Social Care (HSC) services in Northern Ireland. However, we know the system can be complicated, and you may have concerns about the care that you, or someone you care for, has received.

We are here to listen and to help.

We have a team of trained practitioners, who will help you to find a solution or raise your concerns appropriately.

HSC organisations have a duty to cooperate with the PCC.

With your permission we can support you, speak on your behalf and constructively engage with service providers to seek a resolution.

In some cases, a timely resolution cannot be found.

You have the right to make a formal complaint about the care you have received.

We can support you through this process and we will be always be focused on ensuring your voice is heard and listened to.

And if you have a specific need that we cannot help with, our team will aim to connect you to an organisation that can.

We can support you with:

  • Raising an issue or concern
  • HSC Formal and Informal Complaints Process
  • Serious Adverse Incidents
  • Submissions to the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman

Information on requesting your medical recordson registering with a GP and getting dental treatment is available on NI Direct.

"In order to fulfil its duties as an Independent Public Advocate, the Patient Client Council is independent of the other bodies involved in the process (e.g. the HSCB, Trusts, NIAS, RQIA etc.). However, the Patient Client Council works closely with these bodies in order to help communicate the views of individuals, family members and loved ones.

The Patient and Client Council can also assist you if you are unhappy with the outcome of a process or review or the way in which it was conducted and can assist you to make a complaint to a Health and Social Care organisation or a submission to the Ombudsman."

Public Inquiries

Part of our Advocacy work includes Public Inquiries. Health and Social Care organisations are increasingly seeking to avail of the PCC's expertise and knowledge to support patients and carers in SAI investigations / public inquiries and to engage in service design.
